> Inspiring young team members

Deciding on a career at a young age can be very difficult which is why at

the Hub pharmacy we try to maximise training opportunities for our younger team members like Ryan from the St. Catherine’s team, Tranmere.

Ryan first worked in community pharmacy as a 15 year old Saturday boy in his local pharmacy after completing his school work experience there back in July 2012.

At this time, a career in pharmacy had not been an option Ryan had ever considered, admitting he assumed it would be a boring career choice! However, when Ryan joined the Hub pharmacy in August 2014 it gave him

a completely different outlook on community pharmacy, both from a personal view and as a real career prospect.

It was whilst working for the Hub pharmacy that Ryan realised the vast amount of patient services that pharmacies are able to offer and the ever increasing clinical role of a pharmacist. He also experienced the central

role and importance that a pharmacy can play within its local community.

Ryan says that the Hub pharmacy and his manager at St. Catherine’s pharmacy, Kathryn, always wanted him to achieve more by enrolling him onto various courses and training opportunities such as a Medicines Counter course, a Dispensing Assistant course and Smoking Advisor training.

Seeing the clinical interventions by Kathryn, and the ways in which they make meaningful contributions to patient’s health outcomes is what has inspired Ryan to now pursue a career as a pharmacist.

Ryan will be starting a 4 year MPharm degree in September at Liverpool

JMU School of Pharmacy and looks forward to a pre-registration opportunity with the Hub pharmacy in the future.
