Cholesterol test > small charge

 

Cholesterol is a lipid (fat). There are three types of cholesterol in the blood. Keeping the total level under 5mmol/l and the right balance between the three types is the best way to maintain a healthy level.

 

We can measure your cholesterol level accurately in our pharmacy during a short and painless consultation. After giving your consent we will invite you to our private consultation room and will then measure your cholesterol levels using the most up-to-date technology. This requires a small sample of blood to be taken.

 

Results are quick and accurate. Our pharmacist can then provide you with specific guidance and advice to help you improve your health.

Community dosage systems > free service

 

If you, or someone close to you, takes a number of medicines and finds it difficult to stay on top of which ones to take at what time.

 

We can help by discussing various ways in which to make it easier to use your medicines in the right way. If after this discussion it is the right option, we can supply your medicines in a community dosage system to help you remember which medicines to take and when. A community dosage system is a plastic tray split into seven columns (one for each day) and four rows (one for each dose of the day, e.g. breakfast, lunch, tea).

 

We can prepare these for you each week and deliver them to your home, taking away the old tray at the same time.

Community equipment > free service

 

There are many types of equipment available to help you to live as independently as possible as you get older or if you have a disability.

 

We offer a service where you can collect community equipment from our pharmacy when you have received a prescription from a health or social care professional. You will need to have been assessed by a health or social care professional who will decide if you are entitled to receive equipment that will help make things easier for you.

 

If it is something large or if you need us to, we can deliver the item to you free of charge. You can also choose to top-up or upgrade your equipment if you wish.

Many of us need a little help with some daily tasks like opening a jam jar or getting comfortable on the sofa.There are a wide range of products to help with almost every task you can imagine in the home. In many parts of England your GP can send your prescription straight to our pharmacy electronically. Eventually the vast majority of prescriptions will be sent this way.

 

With many of our pharmacies in the same building as your GP, we can make sure the electronic prescription arrives and resolve any problems if it doesn’t.

 

During your next consultation with your GP you may be asked if you would like to choose a pharmacy where your electronic prescriptions can be sent.

Emergency contraception > free service

 

Emergency Hormonal Contraception can be supplied following a brief consultation designed to ensure that you are receiving the right help.

 

Make sure that you speak to our pharmacist about when you should take this medicine. There is a time after which is not effective. We will need to ask you some questions to assess if you are eligible for this service and provided that you are we can make the supply. We will always be discreet and provide private facilities for your consultation.

 

You need to use emergency contraception within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.

If you have been taking your medicines for some time and your condition is stable then you may be eligible to use the NHS repeat dispensing service.

 

Your GP can write a prescription to cover a three or six month period which is kept at our pharmacy. Instead of visiting your GP for a monthly repeat prescription, you can re-order your medicines directly from us and we’ll deliver them or have them waiting for when you come to visit.

Through this service we can supply salbutamol inhalers without a prescription. If you have been prescribed a salbutamol inhaler in the past and provided you are eligible for this service we can supply on a regular basis. We will inform your GP each time we make a supply. At times when there is a national outbreak of Influenza Virus or ‘The Flu’ the NHS supplies a medicine called Tamiflu which helps your body to fight the infection and can shorten the length of your illness.

 

During these outbreaks we can supply this medicine when your GP tells you that you need it.
